Diploma evaluation

Certificate and diploma copies

Whether you are applying for Bachelor’s or Master’s level study programmes, or for Doctoral studies, in your application you will in most cases need to enclose copies of the relevant educational certificates, diplomas and qualifications you have taken earlier.

When applying for Bachelor’s level studies, you need to provide certified copies of your official school leaving certificates showing that you are eligible to apply for higher education in your home country. Similarly, if you are applying to a Master’s level programme, or a Doctoral programme, you should include officially certified copies of your earlier academic degrees in your application.

Please always check the exact requirements from the admissions pages, and follow the advice found therein. The admissions pages will also tell you where and by which date you are to send the required certificate copies.

Diploma evaluation is carried out by the Finnish higher education institution that receives your application.

Some important points on diplomas and certificates

  • emailed, faxed or scanned copies are not accepted. Please do not email any certificate copies to the admissions offices unless specifically asked to do so.
  • usually, you need to send in certified copies of your original certificates by postal mail after completing the on-line application form.
  • certificate copies must be accompanied with an official translation into English, Finnish or Swedish, if originally issued in some other language.
  • it is recommended that you send all your documents in one single package, since this facilitates the processing of your application.
  • pay attention to deadlines – if you send your documents in late, your application is not considered valid.
  • you may at some point be required to present the original documents to the institutions, if requested.
  • Finnish higher education institutions are quite strict about counterfeit documents and certificates. If you include any fraudulent information in your application, you will be disqualified from applying.
