Erasmus students coming to Finland can prepare for their exchange period by partaking in EILC language courses!

Erasmus Intensive Language Courses

EILC courses (Erasmus Intensive Language Courses) are language courses in the less widely used or taught European languages, including the two official languages of Finland, Finnish and Swedish.

They are targeted for incoming foreign Erasmus students who wish to study either the Finnish or the Swedish language before starting their Erasmus exchange period in Finland. The EILC courses in Finland are all beginner's level courses, so you do not need to have any prior knowledge of Finnish or Swedish to partake on these courses.

In Finland, EILC courses are only arranged in August - winter EILC courses are unfortunately not available.

Who can apply to the EILC courses?

You can apply for these EILC courses if you are coming to Finland as an Erasmus exchange student (or if you are coming to Finland for your Erasmus practical placement) for the autumn term 2012 or the full academic year 2012-2013. Erasmus students may also be able to get a supplementary mobility grant for participating in EILC, on top of their normal Erasmus mobility grant. Please contact the Erasmus exchange office of your home university!

Comenius and Grundtvig Assistants can also participate, if there is a surplus of places available on a course. Erasmus exchange students have priority for EILC.

If you are coming to Finland as a full degree student, or through some other exchange programme than Erasmus, you are unfortunately not eligible for the EILC language courses. Please note however that your hosting Finnish university is likely to have other Finnish or Swedish language course options. Please turn to your hosting Finnish higher education institution for information on other language courses available!
