Finnish universities in THE World University Rankings 2027
The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027 includes 2,297 universities from 118 countries and territories, making it the largest edition of the ranking to date. Universities are assessed across key areas including teaching, research environment, research quality, industry and international outlook.
Two Finnish universities made it into the global top 200: the University of Helsinki (#118) and Aalto University (#183). Aalto improved its position from #195 last year, while the University of Helsinki moved from #105 to #118.
The University of Oulu is Finland’s third-highest ranked university at #284, followed by LUT University and Tampere University in the #326–350 band.

Compared with the 2026 ranking, Finland continues to have two universities among the world’s top 200. Eight Finnish universities are now ranked within the top 500, compared with nine last year. THE has introduced more detailed ranking bands in the 2027 edition, allowing the positions of universities outside the individually ranked places to be shown more precisely.
