We have recently identified an increase in misinformation online.
Some websites and social media accounts are falsely presenting themselves as “Finnish universities” or claiming to offer degree programmes in Finland, even though these institutions do not exist.
We encourage prospective students to be cautious and always verify the authenticity of higher education institutions before applying or sharing personal information. Fake universities and fraudulent accounts may misuse the reputation of Finland’s education system to mislead applicants.
Finland has 35 recognised universities and universities of applied sciences that offer over 600 fully English-taught bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes. All these legitimate Finnish higher education institutions are officially recognised by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture.
To make sure you are applying to a recognised institution, always consult the official sources below:
- Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture: https://okm.fi/en/heis-and-science-agencies
If a university or programme is not listed on these websites, it is not officially recognised in Finland.
