You may have seen posts and ads promoting “Fully funded Finland government scholarships” that would cover everything from university tuition fees to travel and living costs in Finland. Sounds almost too good to be true, doesn’t it?
That’s because it is not true.
Posts and ads like that contain a lot of false information and will only mislead prospective students like you – and often also use Finnish authorities’ logos without permission.
The truth is, there are no governmental scholarships for bachelor’s or master’s studies in Finland.
However:
- Many individual Finnish universities have scholarships of their own for international students admitted to their fee-charging bachelor’s and master’s, for example in the form of tuition fee waivers.
- You usually apply for a scholarship from the university at the same time when you apply for admission.
Keep in mind that the universities’ scholarships can be very competitive – and even if you are granted a scholarship (or a tuition fee waiver) by the Finnish university, you will still need to independently cover all your travel and living costs.
Where can you find reliable information on the available scholarships?
- In the degree programme descriptions at www.studyinfo.fi – search for your desired programme to find out details about application, tuition fees and scholarships!
- On the websites of the Finnish universities.
