Universities of applied sciences offer professionally oriented higher education on bachelor's and master's level, and have strong ties with working life and regional development. Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS) A number of UAS bachelors offer a new Pathway Studies to Finland program. These programmes consist of a one-year study period at home, after which you are eligible to apply to continue your studies in Finland as a degree student. The degrees are taught in English at selected Universities of Applies Sciences in Finland. The pathway studies are fully accredited as part of your degree, and universities have reserved a number of study places exclusively available for successful graduates of the UAS Pathway Studies to Finland program. Majority of applicants non-EU/EEA citizens This year’s application round attracted a total of 63000 applicants, bringing a 3% growth in comparison to last year. More than 53800 of the applicants were of non-Finnish nationality, about 80% of whom came from outside the EU/EEA area. The top 10 nationality groups among non-Finnish applicants were Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Ghana, India, Vietnam, Iran, and Cameroon. Finnish higher education institutions offer a range of scholarship options for those non-EU/EEA students who are required to pay tuition fees . Each university/university of applied sciences (UAS) has its own scholarship system. You usually apply for the scholarship from the university at the same time when you apply for admission. Directly for the entire duration of studies If you come from outside the EU/EEA area, you usually need a student residence permit in order to come and carry out degree studies in Finland. Your first student residence permit for bachelor's or master's studies in Finland can be granted to you for the entire duration of your studies, provided your passport is valid through the whole of that period. The permit allows you to work for a maximum of 30 hours per week. If your work is related to your degree (for example, practical training or thesis work) then this 30-hour restriction does not apply
